Inbox

Your Inbox collects notifications and messages from Strata — agent run completions, organization announcements from your admins, system notices, and a welcome message for new users. Open it from the Inbox tab in the sidebar to see what needs your attention.

What lands in your Inbox

The Inbox holds four types of messages:

  • Agent run notifications — when one of your scheduled or manually triggered agents completes a run, it can produce a notification showing the result summary, status, and any artifacts.
  • Organization announcements — your admins post messages here for your whole team or specific audiences. Announcements carry the sender's name, role, and the date they were sent.
  • System notices — alerts about your connected database or other platform events (for example, "SQL Server disconnected").
  • Welcome message — new users see a guided introduction to Strata on their first visit.

The Inbox tab

The Inbox tab in the sidebar shows your unread messages — a true "needs attention" list. A badge on the tab displays the count of unread items. Once you read a message, it disappears from the sidebar and stays in the archive.

The sidebar shows up to 8 of your most-recent unread items, grouped under Today and Earlier this week. If you have more than that, the link at the bottom reads N more (with the total count) instead of All messages — clicking it opens the full archive. When everything is read, the panel shows All caught up and still keeps All messages reachable.

Hover over a message in the sidebar list to see its full title and timestamp. Click any row to open the message detail view. All dismissable rows — announcements, agent run notifications, and the welcome message — carry a × to dismiss them in place. The one exception is the SQL Server disconnected system notice: it has no × and clears itself once you read it or your connection is reachable again.

Agent run messages

Messages from completed agent runs display a lightning bolt icon instead of the usual severity dot. In the sidebar the bolt is gold; in the archive it stays gold while unread and dims to muted gray once you've read it.

Archive and "See past messages"

The sidebar only shows your unread messages. To revisit messages you've already read, click the link at the bottom of the Inbox tab (All messages, or N more when the sidebar list is capped). This opens the full inbox archive at /inbox/all, where you can search, filter by type (All, Announcements, Agents, System), and browse your entire history.

If you have read messages older than 90 days in cold storage, a See past messages button appears in the archive to reveal them.

Reading a message

Click any inbox row to open the message detail. The page displays the full message in an Apple-style layout:

  • Agent runs show the agent name, completion timestamp, and the run's output or summary.
  • Announcements show the sender card (admin name, role, date sent), the full message body with rich formatting, and any call-to-action button the admin included.
  • System notices describe what happened and link to the relevant settings page.
  • Welcome message provides a guided tour of Strata's core features.

A message is marked as read when you leave it — navigating away, switching to another message, or closing the tab — not the instant you open it, so its row stays visible and highlighted while you're reading. The read state syncs to the server, so once a message is read it stays marked read across all your devices and sessions.

Message retention

Your Inbox follows this retention policy:

  • Welcome message — stays in the archive for 90 days after you read it, then drops out of view.
  • Agent run messages — stay in the archive after you read them (they no longer self-delete). Synthetic agent-activity entries are kept for a 180-day archive window, and like everything else drop out of the main view 90 days after you read them. You can delete them yourself at any time.
  • Announcements — follow your organization's message retention policy; your admin configures how long they stay visible.
  • System notices — kept in the archive and drop out of view 90 days after you read them.

Unread messages have no expiry — they stay in your Inbox until you open them or dismiss them. Read messages older than 90 days move to cold storage; reach them with See past messages in the archive.

Dismissing and clearing messages

You can dismiss a message from either surface by clicking the × on its row — in the sidebar list or in the archive. Dismissing a message hides it from your Inbox only; it never affects anyone else, and the master message stays in the system.

Almost every message is dismissable, including agent run messages, the welcome message, and announcements. The two exceptions:

  • Mandatory announcements — an admin can mark an announcement as non-dismissable. It has no × and stays in your Inbox until it expires.
  • The SQL Server disconnected system notice — it has no × and clears itself once your connection is reachable again or you open it.

To clear several messages at once, open the archive (/inbox/all), click Select, tick the rows you want (only dismissable ones are selectable), and click Dismiss. Use Select all to tick every dismissable row in the current view.

Note

Dismissing a message is per-user and reversible — a dismissed message can still surface again via See past messages in the archive.
