Workspace panel
The workspace panel is the column that opens along the right edge of a chat. It keeps the working state of the conversation in one place: what your sub-agents are doing, your plan for the day, the files Strata has made, and where Strata looked for information.
Open it with the Workspace toggle in the top-right corner of any chat. The chat slides left to make room, the same way the artifacts and sources panels do, and all of them can be open together. The chat always keeps a readable width: an open artifact narrows to make room for the panel, and on a screen too small for both, the panel steps aside while the artifact or sources panel is open and comes back when you close it. Close it with the same toggle. On a phone-sized screen the panel covers the chat instead; close it with the X at its top or the Esc key.
The toggle appears once a chat has its first message. It is not shown on the empty new-chat screen.
The four cards
The panel holds four cards, top to bottom. Click a card's header to collapse or expand it. Checklist, Outputs and Context remember whether you collapsed them, in this browser.
| Card | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Sub-agents | The workers Strata started for the latest round, their approvals, and the Approvals setting for this chat. See Sub-agents. |
| Checklist | A to-do list that belongs to this chat. You and Strata both edit it. See Checklist. |
| Outputs | Every document, dashboard and analysis file this chat produced. |
| Context | The places Strata read to answer: your database, knowledge base, files, mail, the web, connectors. |
A chat you use for months can fill these cards up. When a card grows taller than the panel comfortably shows, its top half stays visible under a soft fade with Show more below it; Show less folds it back.
The red dot
When something in the panel waits for you or has changed since you last looked, a small red dot appears on the Workspace toggle while the panel is closed. That happens for:
- a sub-agent approval waiting for your answer;
- a sub-agent that finished or failed;
- a change Strata made to your checklist;
- a new output;
- a source this chat had not used before.
That includes a response that finished while you were in another chat or had the tab closed.
With the panel open, a collapsed card shows the same dot next to its name until you expand it, and while the full Outputs view is open the dot appears on Back. An approval keeps its dot until you answer it; everything else clears once you have seen the card, and stays cleared after a reload in the same browser.
On a wide screen the panel also opens by itself the first time a turn spawns sub-agents or edits the checklist, unless an open artifact or sources panel leaves no room beside it; then the dot appears instead. A sub-agent approval opens the panel, and if you close it the dot stays on the toggle until you answer.
Outputs
Outputs lists what the chat made, newest first, grouped as Documents (Excel, PDF, Word, PowerPoint, Markdown), Dashboards, and Analysis Files (charts and other files an analysis wrote).
- Click a row to open the file in the side panel, the same preview you get from the card in the conversation.
- Download and Show in conversation appear when you point at a row (they are always visible on touch screens). Show in conversation scrolls to the answer that produced the file and highlights it.
- A document Strata edited over several turns is one row with a version marker such as v3. Open it to step through the versions.
- A file appears as soon as it is ready, while the response is still being written. One that is still being made shows Preparing.
- Files made by a sub-agent are marked Sub-agent. Two sub-agents that each write a file with the same name get two separate rows.
- Once the chat has more than eight outputs, the card shows the six most recent and View all N outputs.
The Outputs view
View all N outputs turns the whole panel into a list of everything the chat produced:
- Search by title or file name.
- Filter with All, Documents, Dashboards or Analysis Files; each shows its count.
- Files are grouped by when they were made: Today, Yesterday, Earlier this week, then by month.
- Rows work exactly like the card's rows: open, Download, Show in conversation.
- Long lists show 60 files at a time, with Show more at the bottom.
- New files from a response that is still running appear at the top while the view is open.
- Back, or Esc, returns to the panel where you left it.
If part of a very old conversation's history could not be loaded, the view says so and offers Try again.
Outputs only lists files from the version of the conversation you are looking at. If you switch to a different response with the arrows under an answer, the list follows.
Some rows carry a note:
- Not saved to history: this turn's content was not stored because of your privacy settings. The file is available now, but the row will not come back after a reload, and Strata cannot use the file in later messages. See Files from earlier in the conversation.
- Until you leave: you are in incognito, so nothing is saved.
- Could not be prepared for download: the file was created but could not be hosted. Ask Strata to create it again.
Context
Context shows where Strata pulled information from in this chat, one row per place:
- SQL Server, per database, with the number of queries
- Knowledge Base, with searches and passages found
- SharePoint and OneDrive, with lookups
- Outlook, with lookups and which parts were used (mail, calendar, contacts, To Do)
- Jira and Confluence, with lookups
- Connectors your organization added, by name, with calls
- Web, with searches and pages read
- Earlier chats and Places (maps), when they were used
- Memory, with the number of notes, when the answer was given your saved memory or what Strata keeps about the connected database. The answer's action trail shows it too, as Read memory. Only the count is recorded, never the notes themselves.
Each row shows when the source was last used: now while a response is running, this answer for the latest response, or how long ago. A row also notes uses made via sub-agents, and failures (1 failed, or could not be reached when every attempt failed).
- Click a row to jump to the answer that last used it. The matching step in that answer's action trail is highlighted.
- Click Web to open the Sources panel with the pages behind the latest answer. The Context card itself never lists web addresses, documents, emails or queries, only the place and the counts.
Only places Strata actually looked something up in are listed. Changes Strata made (sending an email, saving a file, writing to a database) are not sources and never appear here. If nothing has been looked up yet, the card says No sources used yet.
Context and your privacy settings
- For a turn whose content was not saved (for example Keep my extension-data chats in history is off and the turn used an extension), Strata still keeps the names and counts for that turn, never its content. If a turn from before this card existed has no such record, the card says how many answers used sources whose details were not saved.
- In incognito, nothing is kept. The card clears when you leave the chat.
- If your organization's data policy withheld an answer, that answer contributes nothing to the card, and a note says so.
