Teams chats extension

The Teams chats extension lets Strata search and read your own Microsoft Teams chats — one-to-one, group and meeting chats — when a question needs them: what someone said, where a decision was made, what you missed while you were out. It is read only: Strata never sends, edits or reacts to a Teams message.

Note

This is not the Microsoft Teams extension, which puts Strata in Teams as a bot. They are two separate switches: allowing the bot never lets Strata read anyone's chats.

Connect

  1. Open Settings, click the Extensions tab, and click the Teams chats row.
  2. Click Connect in the header.
  3. A Microsoft sign-in popup opens. Sign in with your work account.
  4. Approve the requested permissions. The row flips to connected and shows your account.

If the row says your organization has not turned it on, an administrator has to allow Teams chats for you first (see For administrators).

Permissions Strata requests

ScopeWhat it lets Strata do
Chat.ReadRead the chats you are in, and search their messages.
User.ReadRead your basic profile, so the row shows which account is connected.
offline_accessRefresh the connection without asking you to sign in again.

Strata does not ask for channel permissions, so it cannot read channel posts, and it cannot read a chat you are not in. Strata never sees your password: the connection is stored encrypted, scoped to you, and removed when you disconnect.

What the AI can do

  • Search your chat messages for words or a name, and say who wrote each match and when.
  • List your recent chats, newest activity first, with who is in each and its last message.
  • Read a chat to answer a question about it, quoting who said what and when.

Each of these appears in the action trail as a Teams step (Searching Teams chats, Listing Teams chats, Reading a Teams chat). Teams messages reach the model marked as other people's words, never as instructions. You can also type @Teams chats in the prompt box to point Strata at it for one message.

Chats are read only in answer to your question, in your own conversations with Strata. Scheduled agents, sub-agents, the API and the Teams bot do not read Teams chats yet.

Your data

A turn that reads Teams chats counts as extension output: if your organization does not keep extension output in history (or you turned Keep my extension-data chats in history off), that turn is saved blank, the same as one that read your email.

Disconnect

Open Settings, Extensions, Teams chats, then Manage and Disconnect. The stored connection is deleted at once. To revoke Strata's access on Microsoft's side as well, remove it from your Microsoft account's app permissions.

For administrators

Teams chats is its own switch in Organization, under Microsoft 365. It is off for the built-in roles until you grant it; a custom role or a person can be given it like any extension. Turning it off for someone deletes their stored Teams connection.

Members connect with their own Microsoft sign-in. If your tenant does not let users consent to apps themselves, a Microsoft 365 administrator approves Strata's request once (for Chat.Read, User.Read and offline_access).
